In response to challenging production issues and large geographical constraints to communication, the industry initiated an industry development project in 2002. Involving the appointment of an industry development officer, the project was established as a means of improving communications and technology transfer in Northern Australia.
Industry development activities provide an opportunities for industry to enhance its current capability and performance, through
- The establishment and maintenance of strong grower and value chain networks
- Communication of industry issues, events and opportunities
- Delivery of R & D and innovation information
- Facilitation of industry training and active learning
The first stage IDO project (FR01052) concluded in 2005 (media summary). A second stage project (TG05010) is now underway and will continue until 2008.
